Spring & Summer Class on Chinese Medicine

Several people have asked about the classes on Chinese medicine. Mark Tryling makes learning about Chinese medicine a fun and interactive experience! If you are interested in taking the first of these classes, An Introduction to Chinese Medicine, please email us with your name, phone number and email address to: info@mhaom.com.

This class will be held on 2 or 3 non-consecutive Saturdays of about 3-4 hours each day. This class is a prerequisite for the advanced class, An Introduction to Asian Nutrition, which will be conducted later in the year. The class size will be limited to 6-10 people and each participant will receive a package of handouts that will provide even more in-depth information for further study and to use in the advanced class. In addition, each participant will receive a personalized pulse diagnosis consultation! The cost for this class is $50.

CEU Seminars for Acupuncturists

In my continued efforts to support the acupuncture community, I am teaching and sharing some of my personal clinical experiences with other acupuncturists and practitioners of Oriental medicine in the upcoming Fall season.

The first seminar is based on my recently published book, The Pulse Matrix. This is a two day weekend seminar in Austin, TX at the Academy of Oriental Medicine & Acupuncture (AOMA). This seminar is scheduled for September 18-19.

Seminar Synopsis: In spite of what most acupuncturists learn in school, there are natural laws that govern Oriental medicine. It is, completely, a form of medicine based on true science and not esoteric ruminations. Unfortunately, most practitioners do not have a background or education in the hard sciences that comprise the foundation of Oriental medicine. This seminar will introduce the practitioner to these sciences and how they are reflected in the primary diagnostic method of Oriental medicine: Chinese Pulse Diagnosis. This will be a hands-on seminar with plenty of workshop time along with numerous case studies and examples. This technique has been in development since 1997. I have, personally, been using The Pulse Matrix in my own practice for the last five years to develop and implement, both, herbal and acupuncture treatment strategies. There are a variety of pulse diagnosis methods available to practitioners. What I like most about The Pulse Matrix is that it, actually, makes sense and it takes the guess work out of true differential diagnosis. Rarely, do most patients present with a single symptom that reflects a single simple Chinese Pattern diagnosis. In fact most patients reflect several disease patterns. This seminar will teach the practitioner how to identify all the patterns affecting a patient and design treatment protocols that will expedite their health recovery.

The second seminar, Meridian Balancing, based on the Balance Method by Dr. Richard Tan, will be held in Houston, TX at the American College of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). This seminar is scheduled for November 13.

Seminar Synopsis: While still a student, I attended the first seminar Dr. Richard Tan did in Texas. There were about 9 people in the class. All were licensed acupuncturists except for me. None were from Texas, except for me. This seminar was Dr. Tan's original Basic Balance class. A year passed before I was able to implement the techniques I learned in this class as an intern in the school clinic. Because of this technique, alone, I became the busiest intern the school had ever had. Unfortunately, acupuncture schools don't, adequately, teach this technique or don't teach it, at all. In 2009 I began teaching this Meridian Balancing class, which emerged from the Basic Balance method. There are many "balance" strategies available to the practitioner. However, most practitioners don't know of them or how to use them, accordingly, to manifest the necessary affect to their patients health. In this seminar practitioners will learn an expanded form of the Basic Balance method and how to apply the various methods in their clinic, right away.

Both seminars will include Ethics by Leslie Myers.

North Texas Haiti Relief

The following message is from the senior pastor of my church Cross Timbers Community Church. Meridian Harmonics is on board for helping with this cause. Please read this message all the way through and help us help the less fortunate.

I know you are all aware of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti this week. The number of lives lost continues to climb and the devastation is difficult for most of us to fathom.

There are numerous ways that folks are helping.   Here is how Cross Timbers is going to respond:

Give. There are two ways we are going to give towards relief efforts in Haiti:

    • Cross Timbers is going to make an immediate donation of $10,000 to Samaritan’s Purse to provide water and shelter to those in need. This faith based organization has the ability to get much needed supplies to those in need in a fast and efficient manner. We want to help them help the people of Haiti.

    • We are setting up drop off sites at all three of our campuses to collect medical supplies for an organization called Love A Child. The list of items that we are collecting is found below. Items will be collected at all three of our campus locations beginning this Sunday January 17 through the next Sunday January 24th.Drop off times will be from 8:00 am-8:00 pm Monday through Friday and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m until 2:00 pm.

Mark your calendars. Beginning Feb 7, 2009, an introductory class on Chinese medicine will be held at the clinic taught by Mark Tryling. The class will run for three consecutive Saturdays for a total of 6 hours of class time. The class size will be limited to 10 students, to allow for in-depth discussion of topics, self-assessment, practical case studies and workbook exercises. Each student will receive lecture notes and handouts, along with an individual Chinese pulse and tongue reading and diagnosis. You don't have to be a current patient to register for this class. Qi Gong Class

We no longer offer the public Qi Gong Class at the Hurst Recreation Center. Qi Gong instruction is available in private lessons only. We do have a Qi Gong Class DVD available for purchase at the clinic for $20.

Qi Gong (pronounced chee gong) is a Chinese system of physical training, philosophy, and preventive and therapeutic health care. Qi (or chi) means air, breath of life or vital essence. Gong means work, self-discipline, achievement or mastery. This art combines aerobic conditioning, isometrics, isotonics, meditation, and relaxation. Qi Gong is thus a soft form of a related set of disciplines that includes Taiji (Tai Chi Quan) and the hard form of Kung Fu. Qi Gong is the cultivation and deliberate control of a higher form of vital or source energy. Qi Gong can help one fight virtually any disease. Qi Gong helps people prevent the onset of diseases. This can save money and prevent suffering. Qi Gong increases strength, improves resistance to infectious diseases and helps assure a long life. Qi Gong offers individuals a way to achieve a relaxed, harmonious state of dynamic equilibrium.

History of Qi Gong
Rooted in 8000 years of history, Qi Gong originated as a form of healing oneself, mentally, physically and spiritually. Qi Gong is a discipline whose practice allows us to gain control over the life force that courses throughout our bodies. There are more than 3,000 varieties of qigong, and five major qigong traditions: the Taoist, Buddhist, Confucian, martial arts, and medical.

Medical Qi Gong involves breathing exercises combined with meditation. The breathing exercises help induce the state of meditation, and vice versa. One is aware of what is going on, but not too aware, fully relaxed but not in a trance. Through qigong, patients can cure many of the 50% of all diseases that Western doctors dismiss as untreatably 'psychosomatic.'

Benefits of Qi Gong Practice
If you try Qi Gong to treat an existing illness, do so if possible under the guidance of a licensed Chinese medical doctor. Don't try it completely on your own. Beginners need professional supervision. Here the doctor or Qi Gong practitioner acts as an advisor and teacher, rather than a Western-style repair technician. The patient must be an active partner in the health care process. Qi Gong is an effective way to treat substance abuse and obesity. This gentle art improves delivery of oxygen to the body's cells, reduces stress and improves bowel functioning. It is used in Chinese hospitals and clinics to treat individuals suffering from a variety of ailments: allergies, arthritis, asthma, bowel problems, constipation, diabetes, gastritis, gout, headaches, heart disease and hypertension, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, lower back pain, Meniere's disease, myopia, obesity, neurasthenia, paralysis induced by external injury, retinopathy (deterioration of the back of the eye), rheumatism, sciatic neuralgia, sleeplessness, stress, torticollis, ulcers, and peripheral vascular disease. Qigong can successfully treat cancer and reduce or eliminate side effects from radiation and chemotherapy. It is helpful in treating aphasia, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and post-stroke syndrome. It is especially useful in treating any kind of chronic pain, and chronic disorders of the digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Digital Meridian Imaging & Health Screening

Meridian Harmonics has developed a proprietary method for ascertaining overall health. Utilizing a set of complex mathematical algorithms, with an FDA approved digital meridian assessment device, an individual screening takes only 5 minutes. After Mark Tryling analyzes the resulting data, patients are given their unique report of findings along with a recommended treatment plan to address immediate health problems and a maintenance plan for achieving longevity, health and well being.

Specific examples of how Meridian Harmonics Digital Meridian Imaging (MHDMI) will benefit patients:
